when tracy was visiting a week or so ago, he also told us to get ladybugs...i checked at the ace garden center on grand. they are currently out of them, but will hopefully have some more in by the end of the week. i was somewhat relived by this since i have no idea how many i should get or what exactly to do with them. do i just free them next to the rose bush and hope for the best?

Yes, I also gather that aphids are bad, bad, bad for roses. Fortunately, ladybugs are bad, bad, bad, bad for aphids, pretty harmless otherwise, relatively inexpensive, and terribly cute to boot!
